Join the CEN Workshop on ‘Good practice for implementation of a career-tracking survey for post-graduates!

The purpose of this workshop is to create consensus-based guidelines with recommendations to implement career-tracking surveys of PhD holders.

‘Career tracking’ has become increasingly recognized as a necessary monitoring tool to map PhD graduate career paths and evaluate the PhD skills training. It is a useful and efficient tool for producing high-quality data concerning PhD employability and it also fosters increasing interaction with and exposure to the non-academic sector. As part of its project, DocEnhance implemented its career-tracking survey on PhD graduates among nine partner universities in 2021. Its main findings are freely accessible here. DocEnhance has also issued a report on good practices for implementing a career-tracking survey among PhD graduates.

It is proposed to develop a CWA on the good practice for implementation of a career-tracking survey for post-graduates due to the following reasons:

  • need for producing high-quality data concerning PhD employability and skills training;
  • collect feedback from PhD holders working in the academic and non-academic sectors to continuously update training curricula;
  • track the quality of doctoral education and the relevance of PhD curricula;
  • stimulate interactions through PhD’s networking (alumni);
  • implementation of career-tracking survey for individual higher educational institutions (HEIs) awarding doctoral degrees;
  • intended to be used by doctorate awarding organisations wishing to collect information on the employability and skills usage of their doctorate graduates;
  • development of a practical guide for European and non-European universities, who may wish to implement career-tracking studies.

The kick-off meeting will be organised online by CEN on 15 November 2022, 9:30-12:00 CET.
